I am trying to update a computer to the latest windows 10 version. Apparently Windows has a problem with VMware Workstation being installed. To complete my update it asks me to uninstall it, so i try to since VMware Workstation isn't really used anymore. When i try to uninstall it, i get an error that says "MSI Failed" (Super informative). Anyone have any thoughts on how to remove this software? Let me know what logs to grab or anything i need to help figure this out.
I have tried removing any temp files related to vmware that i could find and also, this is risky, but i even went into the registry and searched for anything vmware related and started deleting things. but didn't help.
Hi I am using windows 8(64-bit) and want to install VMware workstation 8. On starting setup file just 4 or 5 seconds later a screen appears with the message like for this setup you have to restart your system. I restarted but after rebooting again same screens appeared and this thing is continuous and setup is not proceeding any further. I repeated this thing 5 times still at same situation as was before starting.
Thanks for your help. I finally did manage to install the 8.0.2 version but could not run both 8.0.1 or 8.0.2 installers as the system would BSOD. The option left was to delete and remove the install manually which I did and I went through the registry to remove every trace of VMware and then ran the 8.0.2 installer. I have the new version up but have the same issue where I get the x007F BSOD. Further I get the BSOD when I try to start two instances of the VMware workstation to run two VMs. I have since then decided to reinstall WIndows. I am equally perplexed. From what I know of filter drivers is that these BSODs could happen if there are too many drivers loaded but can't really figure out what is different on my system. I have an identical system and VMware runs fine there.
2) I still can't about run two instances of the VMware program at the same time. I know for certain that VMware (and most windows programs) won't let you. Each tab is a separate VM which you can run at the same time (in fact this is part of the purpose of VMware).
Quite a few programs have compatibility problems with Windows 7 x64. But that's why Windows has a compatibility mode! If VMware was in this category Windows would likely pick it up. The installer is basically the same as the uninstaller. That's why if you try to reinstall the program by re-running the .exe one of the 3 options is to remove the program completely (which actually is the best method IMHO - have you tried it?) In fact under Linux the program to uninstall VMware WS or Player is vmware-installer -u vmware-"product. This just runs the installer in reverse. There used to be and I believe there still is a vestigial/deprecated program called vmware-uninstall - perhaps they should have kept that! In both Windows and Linux lots of stuff (in the case of Windows more than 150 registry entries) are still lying about. Sloppy. The "uninstaller" - even revouninsatller does not remove the vmnet0 and vmnet8 networks - you can only disable them.
I have the exact same problem since upgrading to 8.0.3. Sometimes I get black boxes flickering all over the place and Aero themed windows go completely black (the content is OK). The Start menu also goes black sometimes. Also Windows Presentation Foundation windows (i.e. .NET) do not render correctly: Images with alpha channels do not display at all and rectangles of content which should be hidden appear over the correctly visible content (this content showing through looks to be previously buffered images - when I close the window and then re-open, bits of the old content from before show even though the application has yet to product this content.)
The install went properly for me in VMware workstation. The issue I have is when I tried to launch the vsphere 8 client, it states that it cannot reach page. I've checked everything: DNS records, disabled firewall and antivirus, cleared browser cache, etc.... but nothing works. What is weird is that the vsphere 7 client runs fine.

You will need to add the following line to the VMX file if using the guestinfo options William documented in -to-deploy-the-vcenter-server-appliance-vcsa-6-5-running-on-vmware-fusion-workstation.html.
Is VSphere 8 and VCenter 8 already a ripe product ? I don't think so!I'm working since many years with vmware products. Never had such issues as with version 8!Using VCSA 6.7 U3 for several years now. The installation was easy and it is working fine. Before was using the vcenter on a windows-vm.
Found the solution:Instead of using the VCSA with the predefined vm. I've used the windows installer to let the installer create a vcenter vm on the ESXi server. The installer run through the stage 1 and 2 without issues !
But, the login to the vcenter server was not able as it tries to connect to the vcenter domain server. It may not be your windows domain and it requires a local DNS entry for the vcenter domain. i.e. I've used vsphere.local and created a DNS entry on my local dns server for vsphere.local with the ip-address of the vcenter virtual server.
VMware released an update to VMware Workstation 8.0.3 Build 703057 yesterday (May 3, 2012). The update is a security update addresses two vulnerabilities that would allow out-of-bounds memory writes on floppy and SCSI devices under certain conditions. The vulnerabilities may allow specially crafted attacks to crash the VMX process (i.e. crash the running VM) or theoretically execute commands on the host. The VMware Workstation 8.0.3 release notes can be found here: _workstation_803.html.

The following article: Upgrading to Windows 10 using Software Update in Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 virtual machines fail with the error: Unsupported SVGA driver (2126929) at vmware.com should solve your problem.
One of the most popular reasons why corporate customers use a virtual machine is to evaluate the next generation operating system. With VMware, you can install, say, Windows 8 and give users access to it, without actually upgrading a specific machine or risking introducing an undesirable user experience into the enterprise. The latest version of VMware Workstation is optimized for running Windows 8 on Windows PCs. Its Easy Install feature simplifies the task of creating Windows 8 virtual machines. Its Unity mode will intelligently scale windows with Metro applications and multi-touch support will ensure you get the true Windows 8 experience in a virtual machine.
The biggest problems with VMware are that its expensive and complicated to setup and use. At $250 for a single workstation license, you need to make sure you take advantage of its 30 day trial before you buy. Its also a very complicated application to setup and configure. Many consumer users will need to either seek assistance from the help file, printed documentation or support forums to insure that they get the best performance out of the app. Please note that I've given this app a low usability rating because of its level of complexity.
After installing vmware tools system hangs. restart shows the starting screen (green background) and the keyboard selected will be shown. nothing else. I used windows server 2008 r2 x64 as starting guest machine configuration. 2b1af7f3a8
