So here's a brief early review of the quality and presentation of the game. I didn't really play it because I'm not an RPG fan. Just using it as an exposé for the business model, like what you are going to read. I'm still evaluating this one, which is the best zombie game I've ever played.
If you're intrigued, I suggest you check it out on Steam. It's in the Early Access forked off the SourceForge release. There are some inconsistencies (such as the deselection of the F word, which is endemic in the majority of indie games), as well as a bit of a learning curve with the interface. I've been able to swing back and forth with no problem at all.
In contrast, Square Enix just gave me the "This game is currently in the early access" version 1.0.2a. These are also people who ran from their users, so it's not just me. As a result, they got themselves a big fat release one day after being in Early Access forever.
But they never released the final game, right? Wait a minute. This game is square enix. They've put a market price on their games. People who want a job can afford it. They don't quite have the social cast at their advertising. This game is also indie, and that's getting even closer to square enix's line in the sand. And so they sent it to me, knowing now with certainty that every other indie with a Steam game will make that same mistake. d2c66b5586
