2011 Year Models The battery pack may or may not have heater elements to keep it from freezing. This was only on the "cold weather package" offered at the time. Prone to battery degradation in hot climates (see more info on this below) 2012 Year Models Should all have the battery heater element as this was made standard from this point onwards. Prone to battery degradation in hot climates (see more info on this below) 2013 Year Models Uses an all-new battery pack from previous years. Anecdotal evidence tends to show that degradation is not as big of a problem in this year model, although Nissan never officially announced any changes related to heat tolerance. 2014 Year Models Some 2014's may have the same battery as 2013 models. Some 2014's actually have the "lizard" battery that Nissan claims is heat tolerant and will not degrade in hot climates. 2015 Year Models. Should all include the "lizard" battery and should be very reliable.
Nissan said they would work on a new chemistry to prevent this from happening. Officially this new chemistry was used in 2015 year model Leafs. However, we've learned that many 2014 year models may have included this too. In fact, some are now speculating that they've been using the new chemistry since 2013 and just didn't tell anyone, in an attempt to study how effective it was. 2013 Models seem to be holding up much better than previous years.
So, it's sort of important to check for battery degradation before buying the car. Check out the image above. What you're interested in are the "capacity bars" over to the far right. A brand new battery will show 12 bars. A highly degraded battery might only show 9 or 10 bars. It is important to note that any 2011 or 2012 Leaf should be expected to have some degradation by this point, especially if located in a hot climate. If you are looking at a 2011 Leaf in Arizona and it shows 12 bars then you need to be a bit suspicious of the dealership. There have been stories of the dealers resetting the computers, causing them to show all 12 bars again for a few days or weeks. As the computer figures out that the battery doesn't have the capacity it should, it will start dropping the bars quickly. So unless the battery has been replaced recently, I would be highly suspect.
It is also important to know a few things about Nissan's battery warranty. If the battery drops below 9 bars, Nissan will replace the battery under warranty. Generally, you can be expected to receive a brand-new lizard battery at this point, although that is not guaranteed. So if you buy a used Leaf with 9 bars showing and there is still a lot of warranty time remaining, you may be getting a great deal because you'll get a brand-new battery. There's another caveat though. There was a class action lawsuit over the battery pack. Some people (very few) opted out of the lawsuit. As a result, those car's VIN numbers were marked in the system to have no capacity warranty. We presume this issue stays with that car forever. Only a Nissan dealer can check the battery warranty status. So if you are thinking that 9-bar Leaf looks great because you'll be getting a new battery, you might want to check the VIN first, before buying.
The 2014 Jaguar F-Type immediately served notice that a new British sports car not named McLaren or Lotus had arrived. But instead of a full frontal assault, Jaguar dipped its toes in the market, by presenting just one of the two expected body styles, and a convertible at that.
Concerning technology matters, the Jaguar F-Type does a few things quite well. Beginning with the 2014 model, a 10-speaker audio system with a CD player, smartphone integration, a USB port, and an auxiliary jack are standard features.
NOTE: Earlier versions of this article included both battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. There are now enough of each that we decided to split them into two articles. Watch for our price guide to plug-in hybrid and range-extended electric vehicles, coming soon!
The 2017 BMW i3 represents the first significant update of the electric city car since its May 2014 U.S. launch. The 2017 i3 gets a new 33-kilowatt-hour battery pack, which boosts range to 114 miles. The original 22-kWh pack is still available in base models, with the same 81-mile range as before. The i3 is a novel design thanks to its unusual styling, carbon fiber-reinforced plastic body shell, and range-extended REx model (which we'll cover separately).
Welcome to the 2014-2021 BMW S1000R review. The German firm gave us what we all wanted in 2014: a super naked S1000RR superbike. Bear in mind that, at the time, they had just ripped up the superbike rule book with the RR and was still reigning supreme. So the thought of stripping the fairing off it and fitting straight bars was the ultimate temptation for speed-crazed road riders.
There are no major issues to worry about. We ran an S1000R on our long-term test fleet over the summer of 2014, grinding out over 10,000 miles of commuting, European touring and trackdays with no problems along the way, apart from a new clutch switch fitted to cure a stalling problem and the side stand mountings, which stripped their threads.
2014 - S1000R launched. Essentially a naked S1000RR retuned for 160bhp. Sport version came with more electronics than any of its rivals of the day, including traction control, ABS, rider modes, HP4-like semi-active suspension, cruise control and heated grips.
Available with either two or four doors, the Mk6 Golf hatchback was not a particularly long-lived model, covering a spread of five years (2010-2014) from start to finish. Our primary recommendation is to buy the newest example you can afford.
When the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV launched in the UK in April 2014, it was in a class of its own. While plug-in hybrid SUVs are fairly common now, they were a rare beast back then, proving a shrewd business move for the Japanese firm.
The Outlander PHEV went on sale in the UK in April 2014, and underwent a few revisions before disappearing from the UK new car scene in 2021. Updates were introduced in 2017 and 2019, with new trim levels also being added along the way, along with a commercial version.
The first recall relates to cars built between December 5th 2014 and March 31st 2016, which could see the ECU overheat. This needed replacing, because it could cause the engine to stall and not restart.
On 2014-2016 cars, the best safety kit is included on the top-spec G4hs trim, including lane departure warning and a forward collision mitigation system. In 2017, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert and pedestrian detection were also added, while a 360-degree camera came with the 2019 model.
Buick's IntelliLink system got a refresh for the 2014 model year. The old system is nearly identical to Chevrolet's existing infotainment systems, just with a Buick-specific look and feel. The new optional system is once again quite similar to Chevy's MyLink as debuted in the 2014 Impala, complete with smartphone connectivity. You may also see some third-party apps available in 2014.
The 2014 Sorento will be the first Kia to get UVO eServices, which allows for Google Maps integration, including directions and location search. It will also feature crash notification. At launch, it's expected only to work with an Apple iPhone.
There's about to be a technological revolution at Volvo. Every 2014 car will come standard with Volvo's Sensus Connected Touch Android-based infotainment system, which we previewed at the New York Auto Show.
When you buy a BMW 328i, as with any other used vehicle, you should factor in a number of different costs on top of the price you pay. Having a reliable buying guide like this can help you make an educated decision when shopping for a BMW, but there are additional ways to figure out the true cost to own.
Keith J. bought his used 2013 Smart ED for $4,000 in 2014 and has since put 23,000 miles on it. He really enjoys driving electric in the city and in traffic compared to a gas powered car. He prioritized battery health when he purchased his used EV. He also recommends potential buyers look for DC fast charging on road trips to reduce any range anxiety, to ask if replacement parts are available at local repair shops, and to estimate the battery capacity in winter weather. He estimates he saves around $100/month over a gas car commuting into New York City.
John V. purchased a used 2014 Fiat 500e with 31,000 miles for $6,800. He also purchased a five-year extended warranty for his EV. He says the 85-mile range is perfect for daily commuting and driving around town. He is likely to buy a used EV again because it has been so reliable.
Vehicles with auto-brake cut the number of rear-end crashes in half, and greatly reduce the number of rear-end crashes causing injury. A 2017 study by Cicchino found that almost 1 million U.S. police-reported rear-end crashes in 2014 and more than 400,000 injuries in such crashes could have been prevented if all vehicles were equipped with Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking. 781b155fdc
